Nyamukondeza Lights Up Province: Nicknamed Ambassadors Win Hearts at Manicaland Arts Night.

On the night of 17 July 2026, the Nyanga National Parks Hall did not just host a show. It hosted a homecoming of sound, memory, and pride.

It was the Manicaland Provincial Fitness and Wellness Arts Night, and the audience walked in expecting one thing: the old magic. The music from the legends of the game being sang by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services was extraordinary.

‎‎The Nyamukondeza Music Band was young, composed, and carried the name of a place with pride.

‎‎Nyamukondeza is a place in Hwesa, Katerere. The band that bears its name comes straight from Hwesa, Nyanga. From the first drum roll you could tell this was not just another group trying its luck. The unity was visible. The organisation was tight. Every movement on stage looked deliberate; every harmony was locked in. What a band. What a night.

At first the crowd watched carefully. The vibe in the hall had been set by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Band, who had the people on their feet, singing and dancing to the songs of the legends. Hands were up. Voices were loud. You could feel the nostalgia thick in the air.

‎Nyamukondeza noticed. Instead of fighting the moment, they joined it.

In a move that turned the whole hall, the band sampled three songs by the legends. Not covers done for clout, but tributes done with respect and their own flavour. They took the familiar guitar lines, the sungura pulse, and stitched them into their own sound.

That was the turning point.

Faces that were folded in judgment softened. Feet that were tapping started dancing. By the third song, the same audience that had been praising the previous band was now in harmony with the art and skills exhibited by the Nyamukondeza Music Band.

‎‎It was not about replacing the legends. It was about carrying the fire forward.

‎‎Coming from Hwesa, a small but proud part of Nyanga, the band walked on stage with something you cannot rehearse: composure. No rush. No showboating. Just music, discipline, and the kind of togetherness that makes a group feel like family.

‎‎Manicaland has always produced talent that punches above its weight. On this night, the Nyamukondeza Music Band reminded us why. They did not come to compete with history. They came to continue it.

‎And in doing so, they earned something no playlist can buy: the love of a crowd that came for fitness and wellness, and through music, a lot changed for workers in Manicaland.
