The world knows Victoria Falls. They know Great Zimbabwe, Kariba. But Nyanga? They only know “cold weather” and “honeymoon lodges, fading timber forests or even potatoes.”

‎‎The truth is, Nyanga has been speaking all along. Through Nyangombe’s, Mutarazi Falls and Madyambizi precious stone for sculptures. Through the mist of Mutarazi Falls. Through grandmothers’ hands weaving reeds from Katerere. Through chillies drying in Katerere heat. Through cultural traditions at Muchena mountains. Through the silence of Ziwa Ruins.

Now it’s time the artist becomes the microphone. Not anyone but artists themselves. Not the brochure. The painter, the sculptor, the weaver, the mbira player, musicians, the storyteller. When an artist speaks, the world listens.‎‎

Here’s how we make the artist Nyanga’s voice and sales team:

‎1. “Artist as Ambassador” – Give Them the Mic, Not Just a Stall.‎‎

We stop hiring outsiders to market Nyanga. We put 50 Nyanga artists on contract as “Climate Voices.”‎‎

How it works:

‎1. 5 zones, 10 artists each. 2 sculptors from Nyanga Craft Centre, 2 weavers from Ziwa weaving, 2 painters or pencil drawers from Nyanga, 2 storytellers from Ziwa, 2 mbira players from Katerere. ‎‎

2. Their job: Create 1 piece of art every month that says “This is Nyanga to me.” Paint the frost. Carve the river. Sing about chilli. ‎‎

3. Their platform: We help them open Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp Status. Teach them to film 30 seconds on their phone: “I am Equaliser”. My hands are from Mutimutema. This basket holds our rain.” No script. Their voice, their accent, their truth.‎

Why the world buys: People do not buy destinations. They buy people. When a tourist in London sees Sekuru Chiko carve Madyambizi stone while Nyangombe flows behind him, they do not see “Zimbabwe tourism.” They see a man, a stone, a river. They book a flight.‎‎

2. “Nyanga Postcards from the Artist” – Art That Travels Before People Do‎.

Every artist creates 3 small, affordable pieces yearly: prints, carvings, woven bookmarks, chilli-paint cards. ‎

The system:

‎‎1. Mutare and Harare galleries stock “Nyanga Artist Series.” Sold as “Take Nyanga home.” ‎‎

2. QR code on back links to a 1-minute video of the artist, standing at Mutarazi Falls or Ziwa, saying their story in Manyika, Hwesa or pure Shona with subtitles. ‎‎

3. Buyer in Germany scans code, hears the artist’s voice, sees Muchena Mountains behind them. Next year they come to meet the voice.‎

Art becomes the advert. Every piece sold equals one more person hearing Nyanga’s accent.

‎3. “Speak Manyika, Hwesa, Sell the World” – Language is the Brand.

Do not force artists to speak English. The world is tired of perfect English. They want real.

Voice strategy:

‎1. Tourists learn 5 Manyika/Hwesa words when they visit. They leave speaking Nyanga. That’s marketing money can not buy.

When an artist says “Madyambizi” with pride, the world Googles “Madyambizi.” Google shows Nyanga. Nyanga wins.

‎‎4. “Artist Residency in Reverse” – Bring the World to Listen. ‎‎Instead of only sending artists out, we bring 12 international artists to Nyanga each year for 2 weeks. ‎‎

The rule: They must work with a Nyanga artist. American painter + Nyanga weaver. German filmmaker + Ziwa storyteller. South African musician + Katerere mbira player.

The output: They co-create one piece. They post it to their 500k followers: “I learned weaving from Mai Tino at Ziwa Weaving.” 500k people now know Ziwa weaving. 50 of them book trips. ‎‎

Nyanga artist gets paid, gets exposure, gets skills.
